Edmonton’s “Downtown East Side” Though it’s not exactly new news anymore, the fact that Edmonton now has a “Downtown East Side” remains impressive, if only in the label’s tenacity. Christening the communities, uh, east of downtown, as “Downtown East Side” hopes for a rhetorical effect that approaches the hell of what Vancouver namesake represents. Except it doesn’t.
