Okay, it sounds really geeky, but guided tours of the Edmonton Waste Management Centre, where you can see what happens to your garbage after you leave it at the curb, are wicked. The Materials Recovery Facility, the giant composter, the new electronics recycling facility ... it’s a couple of hours of green nerdery well spent. And, after you see the never-ending stacks of old computers, TVs and other electronics, you’ll think twice about whether that old microwave is really so bad.
