For a town supposedly obsessed with hockey and football, Edmonton has long had a surprisingly strong basketball community. The U of A’s basketball teams are almost always contenders for the national title, and no fewer than four local colleges field men and women’s ACAC teams. On any given weekend during the school year, there’s some good quality ball being played somewhere in the city. And now, thanks to the Edmonton Chill, there’s pro-level basketball to enjoy during the summer. An NBA franchise it ain’t, but with tickets going for $10 and a team roster full of local talent, it’s about as much as a hoops fan could hope for in a city where most people bleed Oil.New comments for this entry have been turned off and any existing ones are hidden.
