Bestest place to see some really, really old palm trees

{embed="/"}

No, it’s not the Muttart Conservatory (though that’s also awesome in a distinctly pointy kind of way). No, I’m talking about the Alberta Legislature. Strangely enough, way up in the dome of the building, there are five palm trees that are nearly 80 years old. Planted in 1932, the seeds from which the trees were grown are rumoured to have been a gift from the State of California. There are lots of other interesting things at the Legislature too: portraits with moving eyes; an acoustic anomaly known as the “magic spot”; Premier Stelmach’s eerie lack of human emotion; and much more! But don’t take my word for it, check these things out for yourself by taking one of the many (free) Legislature tours that are offered several times a day.
