Bestest road construction for cyclists
It’s safe to say that cyclists are rarely especially delighted to see masses of petroleum-powered machinery scraping, tearing, bleeping, erecting, concreting, secreting and, in the end, consecrating more asphalt to the automobile. But the construction hoopla on Mill Creek Bridge is a great thing: for however many decades, this has been a death trap for cyclists. The super skinny, shared traffic sidewalks on either side of the bridge meant that cyclists had to dismount whenever they encountered a pedestrian. Hauling a bike trailer, there was no space for a pedestrian to pass easily at all. The new bridge looks like it has real space for a bike lane—yet another minor nod to cyclists in the city that makes our hearts beat with affection for bureaucrats.New comments for this entry have been turned off and any existing ones are hidden.
