Lovely, Still
Sat, Sep 25 (4:45 pm), Wed, Sep 29 (1:15 pm)Normally I can't stand holiday-themed films, but Lovely, Still is quite unlike any Christmas movie I've ever seen. Featuring two big names of Hollywood past, Martin Landau and Ellen Burstyn, the film initially appears to be nothing more than the innocuous story of two bumbling elderly people falling in love. However, the innocent charm of the early scenes is belied by a growing anxiety that something is just not quite right—an anxiety that is suddenly and heartbreakingly confirmed at the film's climax. Not only is it great to see a film that tactfully and honestly delves into a very sensitive issue, but it is also wonderful to see aging actors perform in roles that are neither demeaning nor belittling of their talents. vueweekly.com comments: powered by Disqus
