Company: Travis Bernhardt
Starring: Travis Bernhardt
A magic trick is an oxymoron, says Vancouver magician Travis Bernhardt, the geek chic purveyor of sleight of hand and quick wit. His show,Things That Never Happen, is a clever, instructive and self-deprecating hour of magic tricks and magic lessons, deftly managed with just enough showmanship, and virtually no cheese, to satisfy a discriminating audience. Although perhaps lacking an overarching theme, Bernhardt is so damn watchable and likeable with his Mr Bean-like demeanour and his honest, earnest approach to magic, his spontaneity well makes up for the lack of structure. I'd give this one an extra half star if I could—an audience favourite for sure.
