Domino, 2010

Villagers is a Domino recording artist from Ireland named Conor O'Brien. The songs on Becoming a Jackal are entirely his. Listening to his music, it doesn't take long to realize that this is a songwriter who is extremely deliberate. These fine-tooth songs are masterfully scripted, not one note out of place, not one instrument admitted without intense deliberation. Becoming a Jackal has some of the cleanest, most exact folk compositions I've heard in a long time. If you appreciate a messier, more spontaneous sound, this album isn't for you. But if you're all about Alexi Murdoch or Glen Hansard or perhaps even Nick Drake, definitely take a listen to this record.
