Canteen Knockout makes some strange choices on Broken Down Town. When your vocalist sings in a muted, gravelly baritone, why bury him beneath swathes of bass and guitar? Why feature so many extended, nondescript electric guitar solos over piercing and lyrical pedal steel breaks? The few times the band avoids tripping over itself ("Bent Out of Shape" or "My Head's On Fire") make the album as a whole all the more disappointing.
