Six Shooter,
Henry Wagons turns an ear towards the past on this set of country duets. But the time he's interested in is not the sweet heartbreakers of the '70s: there are a couple of those to be found here, but more often it harkens back to the dark undercurrent of Johnny Cash's more twisted work in the mid-'60s on albums like Sings the Ballads of the True West. Wagons' voice and guitars reverberate like they've sprung from the depths of hell, and his lineup of singing partners are just as shadowy. It's a brief—under 25 minutes—foray into dark, but welcome, company. vueweekly.com comments: powered by Disqus
