An interesting look at Fucked Up's origins and continuing processes, "Couple Tracks" brings together lesser-known B-sides, early singles—now hopelessly out of reach to all but the richest of hipsters on eBay—and demo versions of better-known singles. The music itself might not be as interesting to casual fans of the band for whom it might feel demo-ish and a bit unfinished—and, technically, much of it is—but for those who read each member's blog and even found the fan page devoted to lead singer Pink Eyes on behalf of the "bear" community—it should be considered required listening. The most interesting part of the whole package, however, is the snarky liner notes presumably written by guitarist and spokesperson 10 000 Marbles, a.k.a. Mike Haliechuk. A glimpse into the inner-workings of a band nearly as famous for not getting along with each other as it is for its crushing hardcore-indie mish mash of sound and chaotic live shows, the liner notes go straight to the thought processes behind the different versions of the songs included on the album and give a peek into the way the band records. It's this rare glimpse that makes it such a success—some of these tracks you wouldn't want to hear a DJ play, but the origin stories are worth reading.
