Serena Ryder's Harmony has a soulful, '60s vibe that makes for a surprisingly suitable background to the traditionally folksy singer's deeply seductive voice. "For You" channels a bit of Amy Winehouse and adding it to your Christmas party playlist might get people mingling and moving off the couch—and maybe even making big, sultry eyes at their crush—instead of sleepily lounging around. In tracks like "Call Me" and "Baby Come Back" you can feel Ryder's passion as she commands her lover to come back to her. But a strong voice makes a strong woman and no words are sung in desperation, instead offering a sense of hope that whether or not that other person turns around and comes back, we'll all be OK.
