Brushfire,
3
It's hard not to get into Matt Costa's third full-length and self-titled album right from the first track, "Loving You." The man plays acoustic, bongos, jaw harp, percussion and piano, and sings a peppy throwback to early '70s pop. In fact, the album pulls a lot from that time period with a bit of an Edward Bear feel in "Clipped Wings," and "Shotgun" drawing from the Beach Boys' Malibu beach-party feel. But don't worry, baby, Costa's music stands on its own, especially as he adds to his instrument repertoire and picks up a 12-string for a few songs, like the folksy seafaring ballad "Silver Sea." Worth a listen.
