Finally dropped after years of anticipation, Raekwon's continuation of his
legendary solo debut suffers a bit from the same thing that's affected all of
the Wu-Tang save Ghostface: there hasn't been a whole lot of evolution, and
what was once revolutionary and revelatory has influenced so much it seems
run of the mill. Rae is certainly more inspired than his frequently limp
interceding records, and with the right producer—RZA on the creepy
"Black Mozart," J Dilla on the epic "House of Flying Daggers"—hits on
some worthy follow-up to the original. It won't ever be mistaken, but it's at
least worthy of the legacy.Raekwon
