A weekend of skateboard racing; Death Race seeks volunteers
Rollin’, rollin’, rollin’Early bird registration is open for the fourth annual R.O.G.U.E. Race, set for August 21 – 22 (roguerace.com). Anyone registering before August 1 will save $10 off the $40 registration fee.
The weekend-long skateboard event features two main comps, the Ribbon of Green Ultimate Endurance (or R.O.G.U.E.) race and the High Level Downhill. As of the 2009 event, each race now offers a $1000 grand prize.
The enduro racecourse follows river valley trails from north of Rundle Park all the way to Government House Park, a 20-kilometre push. If you’re new to boarding, this is a good way to get to know the trails in a friendly, safe atmosphere. The High Level DH, meanwhile, will be full-on abrasive asphalt madness, where racers must wear full-on body leathers and face helmets. As the website says, “People will be hitting hay at high speed!” It doesn’t get any better.
Death Race volly call-out
The 10th anniversary of the Death Race is going to be one of the parties of the season. If you’re not already registered to race or coming as a member of a support crew, time is running short. But don’t fear, there are still ways to be part of the action by volunteering at canadiandeathrace.com/volunteers-info. Perks include a Death Race shirt, free pizza lunch and the undying gratitude of race staff and racers. Volunteers will also be entered in a grand prize draw to win a free five-person relay team entry to the next year’s race. vueweekly.com comments: powered by Disqus
