The planned construction of electric power lines from the outskirts of Edmonton to the Heartland project in North Saskatchewan is providing some heated citizen debate. On Wednesday August 25 citizens called a town hall to discuss the transmission lines going out from Edmonton to the heartland. This isn't the first gathering of citizens. Last year close to 2000 people attended a rally at Rexall Place to demand lines be put underground. The Heartland Transmission Project, consisting of AltaLink and Epcor will be submitting their application to the Alberta Utilities Commission to go through with this project this fall. And if approved will begin construction in the fall of next year.
