Diary of a Gig Fiend - Deep Dark Woods
Once a month local promoter Brent Oliver brings a touch of twang to the Black Dog for a country showcase dubbed Glitter Gulch. Last week Saskatoon’s Deep Dark Woods shaded the stage and entertained yet another fresh batch of university students and the usual weeknight carousers with its slow and steady brand of Prairie tunes. Unlike other alt-country acts eager to slam a little punk or rock between their hayseed chords, Deep Dark Woods keep things simple and pure with a scruffy edge to match the players’ whiskered stage presence. It was a good night and a good band for raising a pint on hump day to the week past and the weekend still to come. V
